“I didn’t know what to do when I lost my job. I felt like my whole life had changed in minutes. I was stuck and didn’t think I’d ever get another job again.” – April Morgan

In December of 2017, April Morgan’s life had taken a turn. After getting injured on the job, April was released from her position as a delivery driver and became unemployed. “I couldn’t do my job anymore,” said April. “I was so frustrated because I knew I had to change my whole career but wasn’t sure about the steps to take in order to do so.”

After being eligible for a training voucher from her insurance company, April knew the only way she could get any closer to finding a new path would mean having to go to school again. “I was nervous,” said April. “I wasn’t aware of the different kind of programs out there and which ones would be the best for me.”

Researching online, in hopes of finding a school that would accept her, April came across Alliance Career Training. “I met with Alex Sanchez (General Manager) and Edward King (CEO) several times before deciding that Alliance was where I needed to be.”

After much consideration, April had enrolled to be a student in the Microsoft Office Professional Program in October of 2018, with goals of completing a Microsoft Office Certification in PowerPoint and starting her new career in office administration. “My first day was nerve-racking”, said April. “I didn’t talk much throughout the class, but by the end of the day, I felt really good and knew I had made the right choice.”

According to April, Alliance Career Training’s Instructor Jose Avalos was one of the reasons why she enjoyed the program so much. “Jose was a great instructor,” said April. “If you needed help, he’d make the effort to come over to your work area and walk you through your questions step-by-step. He was very informative and was very helpful, especially when someone needed extra training outside of school hours.”

For April, balancing school and personal life wasn’t as difficult as she thought it would be. “I liked that classes were in the morning and that I could have the rest of the day to study or do whatever else needed. I also really liked the fact that I could receive a certificate in only a short few months, instead of having to go to a four-year college, where I’d be in school for years.”

April completed the 18-week program and was congratulated on graduation day with a Microsoft Office Certification in PowerPoint on March 5, 2019.

“It was a really big step for me,” said April. “Before coming to Alliance, I felt stuck. I didn’t think I was going to be able to get a job. Now I feel accomplished and know that I’m more qualified for employment than I ever was.”

Looking forward, April has already received various employment opportunities and is more confident than ever.

“If I didn’t come to Alliance, I wouldn’t have known which steps to take to start a new career. I am so happy that I was able to be a part of the program and get the certification and qualifications I needed to pursue a new career in office administration.”
